Quite an interesting evening on Kirkbride Airfield, what with a rally car being tested, John Crone riding up the runway singing ‘If I had wings’.lol.

The trails and in the Seniors Persian Bay, Marli , Endure and JLS were the first four to the last road and that’s how they finished with last seasons pup champion Persian Bay holding off the persistent challenge of Marli to register her first senior win at the rewarding odds of 12/1.

In the pups and notching her first success, after a promising winter campaign, was Alan Blacklock’s Margaret Rose. She held off the consistent Canny Mover by a length with Misha a head back in third. Watching the video you realise that if hounds aren’t sure what’s on the ground they will jump it.

£90 worth of all-inners were led in by Fireman Sam from Bracelet and Paloma Faith, catch the video of the finish to see the first 16.

Surprise of the evening was when Alan Blacklock learnt that Beatrix Potter newly  minted 50p pieces were retailing for a £100, he wanted two for a £1 and David Studholme was highly delighted when he found out it was our Pat and not Me who is moving to Hi laws.

Report. Bower House is fast becoming Stockdale as once again the Overwater Team completed a double with ‘Arnie and ‘Roger’.

Overwater Arnie had a comfortable win in the seniors, he led at half way and completed the double ,this time beating Daisy Dream and Canny Girl.

In the juniors Overwater Roger, considered unlucky on Saturday, finished strongly to deny Canny Mover passing her in the last few yards with the fast finishing Jenny’s Aura in third , who had recovered well from a fall at the ‘dyke’.

The ONW provided Nicola , Robyn and the rest of the team with a win with Foxparke So Be It , she held on to beat Hunter’s Sparkle and Tempress and Miterdale Princess close behind. The well backed Mystery Girl returned to the start with three others.

Stanley and Carol Jackson from Borrowdale won the Open Restricted with Bewitched who had a good lead over Littman who was a similar  distance in front of third the favourite Huntsman’s Hope.

The hounds were coming down the trod– ‘there are five clear was the report’. A regular trailer ,binoculars up, Aye there are two, followed by one ,then another one ,then another one.

A ‘ young’ lady next to him said ‘ two , one ,one and one what does that add to John ——– Five?.

The first of the Kirkbride meetings and in the seniors by half-way eight hounds had a clear lead , these were led by Endure, the feature of the leading hounds were , apart from Persian Sky, that experience told and first season seniors will benefit from their first run over the course . Marli , from the Ivor and Wendy Martin’s Selside Stable held on to a head win over course specialist Prudence.

In the Juniors Step Up was the unplaced favourite the spoils going to the promising ‘General James’ who thwarted a ‘Martin’ double when beating Misha by a length with the Reid pair Just Mick and Dan’s Lad split by Speed On all close behind.

The all-in was won in fine style by Cartier with Try Again, Bracelet, and Fireman Sam tucked in behind, three contenders for senior honours.

Contenders for the Easter egg on face were Baz Laidler, Harry Reay for miscounting, and found in the slurry on the way out one pair of Helios binoculars , return will be subject to a fee for 1 getting boots s*** up .

Report:

The 2016 season got under way at Bower House today and the first winner of the season was last seasons championship runner- up Overwater Arnie, who got the better of Jenny’s Choice to win comfortable. The kennelmates Debra and Thorn Dancer were well back in third and fourth and Free Spirit , now with the Steeles a close fifth.

In the juniors a close finish between the first four, after first missing the last gap and then casting on the run in, it was Overwater Hally that got up on the tape to beat the well backed Canny Mover with a clipped Yorkshire Lad in third and just behind in fourth the local copper.

A 15/1 double for the Overwater stable James and associates, could they make it a treble with ‘Jack’ in the Open Maidens.

He finished ‘just out’ behind Les and Pat Black’s Storth hound Canny Girl who won rather reluctantly from ‘ Tommy’ What Look by a few feet with a couple of Miterdales in third and fourth.

On to the final event and in the twilight or as somebody remarked they are all looking through their binoculars and ‘to be honest’ you couldn’t see a thing. Out of the gloom appeared Tommy’s Legacy and he won easily from the Borrowdale pair of Menorah and Marlou split by the aptly named Night Vision.

The discussion that followed went —-‘ what are we going to do on Monday,? if the weather is the same the last trail will be run in the dark’ . Then somebody remembered the clocks alter tonight – nuff said !

The field took a bit of a ‘bashing’ and rice will be sewn to supplement Steve’s income-

Got in the car to come home to be greeted by my  three year old grand daughter , with the words ‘ you are a pain in the arse’..’ Out of the mouths of children ‘! Happy Days just 7 months to go.

Report: The destiny of the puppy championship is going ‘down to the wire’ with the result of the final trail of the season at Millstone Moor on Saturday. On paper it looks like a tie between Persian Bay and Huntsman’s Kraka but  ‘what if’ and who knows are the questions. At Seaton today all four contenders met once again and once again all got beat This time by 8/1 outsider Bracelet ,who fairly flew up the long finish to win by ten yards , Daisy did best of the contenders ,finishing third after missing a golden opportunity  together with Huntsman’s Kraka at mist shrouded Grange yesterday.

The other two trails had a real feeling of ‘end of the season blues about them’ when only three ran in each and both had easy winners in Try Again and Da Look.
