report . On a dismal evening with the light fading fast, not only another double for the Patterdale kennel of Denise bland but first three in the seniors and one-two in the juniors. The Huntsman’s are in full cry a double championship is a distinct possibility, watch this space.

In the senior trail Major had the early lead but Nimrod always had him covered and won stylishly similarly the two pups Oracle and Orchid’/

Sweet Harmony held off the challenge of Eden Raine to win by half a length and Explore passed both Thorn Fire and Mysterious to keep her in the race for veteran Champion.

Report, A blustery day consisting of sunshine and showers’ in the seniors ,Jenny’s Aura re-routed from the cancelled  Loweswater show showed a clean pair of heels to most of her champion rivals has she attempts to hold on to her crown, Queen chased her up the long uphill climb to the tape but had to settle for second with ” Geoffrey” in third for Steve as Ian was on the Roodeye. .

The senior maidens and Trev finished too fast for Sinbad and Hooligan coming from third to register a win for Tanya.

Here is a twist to the race feeding of hounds- the senior winner , the non winners first and the puppy second were all due to run on Sunday,  when trailing was cancelled, they ran Saturday instead,

The veterans trail saw the favourite Thon Fire gain a six points ,to make  t he veterans championship an interesting affair, between Thorn Fire – Tommy’s Legacy and  Aspire..

  Report . It isn’t often that a hound is passed on the finish of Ennerdale, But  Forlorn Spring managed to edge out Copper on the line with the favourite crazy back in third , these three were well clear of the rest.And that was the story of the day , S ully held on in the pups, Zulu ,dwarfing Iris used this to his advantage and Jiggly Puff had a similar experiance in the last.

One mug punter struck ,what was a giveaway bet, Even money a Foxparke to win the open maidens. 8 runners out of 21 and didn’t even get a ticket..

report; I don’t know where the wind was coming from but I certainly know where it was going, it cannot have been easy for the hounds on the top of the fell, gale force at least but the show went on ; that’s showbiz

.  In the seniors Jenny’s Aura came clear from Huntsman’s steele or was it Miterdale Nimrod as Denise turned to Ian and said ” what do you call your hound I’ll shout for it —–   Hey Geoffrey.

Consigned to the car for most of the evening I was recounting the nickname of an old trailer , he was called ” Just Out” . How did you get on tonight  BILL ” seventh -=just out ” was the reply..

So as we were sat on the pathway to the finish -= here goes  No Name – first pup pass the car -” Where did you finish-” Seventh ” was the reply , next one “just out ” next one ” not far away ” next one “seventh” then those came that were well back and the ticketing  hounds, then “BOB” where did you finish Tony ” seventh”, so I told him the story of the seventh hound- then looked on the website and” Bob’s your uncle, Bob was seventh.  By the way Oracle just beat Acorn. We guessed the winners of the next three and ended up with three sevenths, it’s seven o’ clock I’m off out.

Report. You’ll be checking the archives of hound trailing to see if you can find as prolific winner of one trail as Jenny’s Delight,the one trail being the senior trail at Ambleside sports and Rydal hound show, one and the same although different trail dates., four at one and three at the other. a credit to the Little family of Carlisle  ( Anne told me to mention this , like a terrier that’s got od., I’ll provide the trumpet, you can blow it, appropriate, as Jim was a player in a band. Oh bla =di- – oh -bla =da..

It is quite unique that the first three pups on Tuesday were the first three on Thursday in the same order and could it be Dash putting in a late challenge for the pup championship ( remember Tramore ), Jenny’s Oracle, the unplaced  favourite came on the senior start and in the last trail it was sweet harmony in the Holmes kennel as she kept both Jenny’s breeze and Overwater Jack at bay .

PS Remember Tramore ! In the 1979 season Birkby Lass  won the puppy championship with 21 wins , Tramore , whose first championship win was at Crosthwaite near Keswick on Aug  27th and finished the season with 17 wins in fourth.

Report. to comply with the latest slipping rule ,these trails were moved back and on a wet night it was just as well as visibility detereated rapidly and , although the first hounds to finish were visible , what about the last one to finish.

The seniors ,and ” Nimrod ” won cosily from New Agenda, whose first run in senior trail was encouraging and this hound could have a say in where the championship ends up ..

And in the pups Acorn notched another win for the evergreen Reggie   Smith and a close finish in the last saw Companion get the better of the Queen ( that’s a week in the tower) and ELO with Mr Bluesky in third..
