Two year old Cuckoo Lane, clipped and raring to go , came from a moderate sixth at half way to beat a trio of Miterdales, showing his liking for the’ Bower’ second half and to the shout of ‘ Benny’ became table leader, steel was second and Shadow third , no doubt the clippers will be out on Saturday.

The pup trail and after an ‘iffy’ start and making a right mess of the finish, it was Kendal hound Acorn and Stockdale bitch Overwater sully that came with  a clear lead , Acorn winning by a few lengths, one or two were in the reckoning and Saturday could be different.

Irony or not – that Huntsman’s Major  second in the puppy championship in 17 , wouldn’t take part in 18 and now in 19 has four chances of winning maiden trails , 30 seconds to play with on Saturday it will be close , perhaps he will take on ‘ benny’. By the way he won

The all-in trail was run in the impending gloom and Dairy lightning held off Buble and Wild Gypsy.

Sometimes things happen whether it be on the trail field or out in the countryside. On Thursday a hound lost its life in an unavoidable accident , when ,on the start of the senior trail it accidentally collided with another hound , the result being that the unfortunate hound hit an uneven part and subsequently after somersaulting  He fractured his vertebrae. Although this was a nasty accident they are few and far between , the welfare of all  hounds is paramount and our heartfelt  sympathy goes out to Michelle and David.

Report, Quiz Question. Whose hound ran the second half in it’s tartan coat then ran in the restricted trail. It was one of those nights- two winning hounds were disqualified for cutting- Lone Rebel in the restricted and Capetown in the veterans apart from that it was an enjoyable evening underneath the watchful eye of ” Haystacks”. The two Champions elect. Jenny’s Aura and Huntsman’s nimrod won as they liked and Stand By and Night Vision won in the stewards room whether they liked it or not.

As  of last season and a case of deja – bleu. the pups confused the Moor finish with that of half way around the Bridekirk trail and the first five jumped the fence into the adjoining field , Tom Thumb rectified his mistake and jumped back but by then Best Mate had cleared the tape and was declared the winner, his owner then went immediately to buy a lottery ticket,

The senior and Senior maidens was a rare double for the vice– chair when Josie and Dixie two Meadows took the honours, Jodie got the better of Escape and Dixie cleverly held off Fireman Sam.

Report. To win any trail is an achievement especially when its in the non-winners class in October and wins have come few and far between for Helen Farrer so it was nice to see Border Lad winning ,at Walna Scar under the shoulders of the Old Man of Coniston , last night .

Report. An explanation of what went wrong , apart from the minor scales that happen eg, the senior maidens circled just before they showed after 20 mins so those that showed first were in fact last and vice-versa the last should have been in front.

The leading pups ran on crossing the lane, some righted themselves some didn’t but the main concern was what happened in the last two trails, although unproven but very likely in the circumstances is that – the puppy trailers had to walk to the split one of them had already laid a trail and knowing where they walked , the conclusion is – that they joined up the outgoing and incoming trails, the only thing is why? didn’t the other short trails do likewise.

Report. well done the Ulverston area, excellent trails even Norman Collier liked them, and for all those who stayed away , for whatever reason, you missed out and to prove that every body had a chance, the Ulverston area (1), Westmorland (2) Keswick (1)Whitehaven ( 1) Cockermouth  (1), the winners and ticketing hounds, top scorer the Whitehaven area..

The senior winner scoring her first open win with more than one runner was Kendal hound Wild Gypsy, a late bred pup from the Westgate Kyza – Westgate gypsy litter, that’s enough to put a smile on the late Jimmy Glaister’ s Face and it brought a tear for Dot Wilding when she recalled this was their first success in an HTA major trail event, that is Her self and husband Michael ( Town crier) who, unfortunately had been scuppered by some dodgy fish food and was unable to attend. That is why a number of raffle prizes were unclaimed. by the way ,big thanks to ” laal Pat ” for selling the raffle tickets .

1-0 to the bookies not for long, Watch out ,watch out Tyson ‘s about, Tyson fury, NO!, Mike Tyson , NO!  But Les Tyson ( Tiger) Yes ably assisted by “Lu Lu” Pounder, Lady Anne beating “Gypsy’s  brother West Tip ( Nevada) now that would have been a rare double !

Huntsman’s Novice , lived up to his name as he and Benny made a right mess of the finish but after a look at the camera the race was awarded to the Patterdale pup.

Report. A disappointing entry for the seniors when only four faced the starter. Nevertheless Miterdale steel and Bounty provided the crowd with a close finish in which “Steel” prevailed . The other runner Westgate Autumn was still at large after the final whistle. The senior maidens kept to – gether and Carrick passed Fireman Sam on the flat finish.

A close finish for the non-winners saw Eden Raine head O’lll Blue eyes with the ticketing hounds close up. Copperfield came in front and only had to finish in the first three to collect £125 , finish fourth to tie so he decided fifth was near enough.
