After a scale in the pup trail Jenny’s Oracle came away clear of Acorn and Huntsman and the first win of the season for Laal Lisa as “Billy”aka Black Legend bt Mine , or was it yours or their’s, no it was Mine! in the Open Maidens and veteran Galemire Grace romped home in the restricted trail

Report, A bit more land for the seniors ,4 minutes extra, and “Shadow! ” turned the tables on ” Major ” to register win number 4. A first win of the season for Huntsman , who had shown promise in the practice trails and was quietly fancied for major honours.

The first trail was run in murky conditions , so you could rightly imagine that the two short trails were run in similar conditions , hence a thin report concluding in Prospect Spot winning the last and from where we were standing there wasn’t much prospect of seeing anything.

The “tea-van” seemed to be doing well as there was no room at the inn, then it was raining and most of the “customers ” were sheltering.

PS you put signs out  to help the plebs and a trail within a week at the same place you would expect no problems ,

Then , why was the tea -van heading up the dead – end road to nowhere.

Report’  What a nice way to spend an Easter Monday, far from the maddening crowd, tucked away up the vale of Miterdale surrounded by 80 hounds and umpteen children, bliss !!!!.

Here/s one for the plebs if the short trails had all run together would the winners and some placed hounds finished within half a minute of each other.

In the senior trail former puppy champ Miterdale Shadow went to the top of the championship with win number three , he was well clear of “Benny” aka cuckoo Lane ,who is also on three wins for the season.

In the pup trail course winner Acorn had a handy lead on the descent  to low Place but Saturday’s winner  Maggies Dream possessed a stronger finish and won by length.and in the maiden trail another of Saturday’s winners O’l Blue eyes came close only to be beaten by a ” southerner ” Kaiser Sosa.

Stand by came from the back to win the restricted trail and in the veterans another former champ Overwater Arnie recorded the fastest time when he outpointed Tommy’s legacy and deny the Graham kennel a double and ” Grace followed Tommy and Arnie.

Report. It wasn’t the first time that a short senior trail at a fresh venue  has caught the officials out as you can see from the video the tape for the senior trail was ” put out” after the first hound had finished ,fortunately an official was present and thankfully there was only one hound .

Huntsman’s Major won easily and  only half a minute over the minimum time of 25 minutes, the second and third were also friendless , the scouts reported that the majority of the hounds ran straight on above Setmabanning and were last seen heading for St. Johns.

The puppy trail was a 1-2- for the Bland kennel with Oracle beating Orchid with Huntsman’s nothing in third and in the restricted trail Babylon and Dairy Lightning were clear of the rest , lightning went missing in the last “dip” leaving Babylon clear of Galemire Grace and Some Lad, now that put a smile on Lisa’s face, only third , a smile as wide as a mile, learn summat you “Grumblers”.

Report. Is it a Spin Off of Coronation Street?  no! it’s the time in the life of a hound trailer, filmed by a group of keen , although not recognised company, they hope to pave their way into film making by way of Film festivals etc, maybe we might be playing host to the next Tarantino.

First off the eleven seniors and in the words of Jimmy Greaves ” It’s A funny old game ”  Best Mate first senior win followed by his first senior last.  Liz has been “knocking at the door ” and she registered her first win at the expense of Deepdale Flynn and the errant Babycham who was intent on running the Grassings trail, running wide and throwing away any chance.

By the Way this new Oulton trail comprises of the Grassings trail , some of the old Oulton trail, the main difference being the new trail field and fresh finish.

The first senior hound Restricted for some time ,there was one at the kentmere venue and some many seasons ago, only seven runners ,of which four came together and coming from that fourth position relishing the uphill finish was Arizona , he passed Meadow Dixie to win by five lengths,  Chairman beats Vice- Chairman .

The pup trail and mayhem at the first road crossing, it would be well to remember that this is the first time that these pups have encountered a road crossing especially  with a number of scouts and by-standers standing  TOO CLOSE.

And as before on nearly every first pup trail, they  made a mess of it , running down the road and quite a number returned were caught and ran in the All-In, a number came back and went again one of which was the eventual winner Limber, lesson learnt , and there will be no problems on Tuesday.

49 All-inners or as the management put it £ 98 was won by Persian Bay and a warning to those who think “beating the flag” in a race that doesn’t matter, it is a fineable offence”!!!

Report . The first of many at low Place and the first trail was claimed by Miterdale Shadow who beat the “jolly  Miterdale    Steel by a couple of lengths. “Shadow” went unbacked, all the money was directed at steel.

The juniors, as  is often the case  ,  failed to make the climb, got to low  the consequence being that five   pups came well clear , Acorn relished the downhill   finish and easily beat  Kinniside Sam  , And the final race by the rivers of miterdale came Babylon in front of  Wild Gypsy , spurred on no doubt by the late Town crier Mike Wilding.

The seniors and just 12 runners , and the disappointment of the race was the ” Major ”  , after having nearly won on Saturday , retuned to his Last seasons antics of “coming Back” .  The door was left open to Cuckoo lane and in a “cracking” finish he beat Jenny’s Aura and Best Mate.

The puppy trail and another winner in Nicola and  Stuart’s  Prospect Spring   showing pre – season promise he beat Kinniside Jack who in most eyes probably beat himself, a half a length was the winning distance. Did anybody hear the shout of the Teas are on me! or was it a dream ?

Two hounds finished well clear in the last event Artemis winning by ten metres from  Copperfield who is generally referred to as” Knob “Ed ” for reasons only his owner knows!

Report. 103 hounds, On the first Saturday of the new season ,faced the starter. In the seniors  the former Chairman’s Cuckoo Lane won for the second time this week but He had to pull out all the stops to beat Huntsman’s Major who didn’t do himself any favours by slowing down just before the line, Cuckoo Lanes brother Best Mate close up in third.

The puppy trail and three tickets out of four for the Cumbrian Circumnavigators , Geoff . Ian and Tony, first , second and sixth,  Kinniside mick beating Kinniside Sam with Overwater Sully in third , Monday’s winner Acorn was un placed and Reg Smith was still looking for it after it  had finished.

A gamble was landed in the open maidens when Lee Wall’s ,making the long journey from Carlisle, Denton Bilbao improved on Monday’s fifth to win by a clear margin. and in the veterans a popular win for Ken  Routledge’s Galemire Grace comfortably beating Tommy’s legacy And Lady Bethan , all newcomers to this popular event.
