Message from your chairman.

After the meeting of the committee on Friday MAY 29th.

It was agreed to start the 2020 season on Saturday July 4th preceded by trial trails starting on Saturday JUNE6th.

This is subject to a favourable report on professional sport by the government..

The first meeting will be held at Kirkland and there will be a set procedure to follow and I emphasise this must be strictly adhered to.

More information will be made available next week.

Baz’s Blog

I suppose it is inevitable that we go back to the last major disruption in the hound trailing calendar — the foot and mouth outbreak that closed down the 2001 season. and disrupted the 2002 season.

And we start with none other than the man himself Mr Reginald Bell..,. The puppy championship was due to start on May 1st and official trials in April. Not Reg, the pups are doing fine and we want to start the season on April 1st.

” I have to get 10 per cent of the membership to support a call for an extraordinary meeting and then we will see what can happen ” said Reg , whose two pups out of Lady Bandress had been showing promise.

The Committee decided to delay the start of the puppy championship to allow everyone a fair chance to catch up ,it isn’t everybody that can devote as much time as they wished especially through the ban which it is alleged some people broke to train their hounds.

For the record Melody won the puppy championship with 43 wins , Reggie’s won 8 and 6.

Every once in a while there’s a result,a race winner, or an event which unites this colourful sport and puts a smile on everyone’s face.

At Lazonby on Saturday Meadow rose won the pup trail for the Carlisle and Penrith area Chair, Paul Airey. This was Paul’s first Championship win in over 30 years of trailing.

In comparison Victor Brownlee turned out Melody to win at Coniston to bring up his 1,000 th Championship win, a remarkable achievement and Victor, modest and unassuming, said that the best of all his hounds was Shannon with 167 wins.

Ambleside sports and a not so happy Peter Green of Windermere, after his Super Club threw away her winning opportunity in the open graded, coming to the final gate with a massive lead, veered off to the parked cars and was looking for her own, after several attempts to attract her attention,Peter moved off the line and although Super club

righted herself she was subsequently disqualified, unfortunate but correct.

stay tuned more to follow.

A Message from your chairman.

To all members and hound trailing followers throughout Cumbria and further afield.

Memories of 2001 come  flooding back as once more hound trailing is in the grip of a ban.

How long for?  judging by what you read and what is said, pure guesswork is the answer!

Based on present calculations mid June is predicted, how long is a piece of string ?

If that is the case then trailing will proceed on a Championship basis on and around the beginning of July

Therefore May Day will be cancelled , the International will be postponed and the Dog produce will be run in October.

when trailing gets the go ahead there will be a trial period where the Fixture list will contain the trail meetings but the minimum time will be altered  on a similar basis to march trials.

An Attempt will be made to ensure that when trailing resumes it will be on “a level playing field ” and on that note it is legal to run a practice trail as long as there is only two of you !

I hope, like the rest of you , that this virus will run its course as quickly as possible and we can get back to normality,

Monopoly, trivial pursuits, betting shop and pub shut  are not my “cup of tea.”
