COMMITTEE MEETING SUN JULY 9TH

The committee met on Sunday

Minutes were read.

August Premier trails were awarded to Tallentire Hill nr Tallentire Cockermouth on Saturday Aug 12th at 1.30.

There will be H M P PM OR and V .

The Cockermouth and Workington area Committee will be the host.

The HTA’s long standing secretary Margaret will be standing down at the end of the current season. Margaret has been secretary since 1990 , the Committee wish her well in retirement and although retired she will be on call and give assistance to our new secretary. That said -We are now on the lookout for somebody to fill Margaret’s shoes , applicants please make enquiries to the Chair and don’t all rush at once!

The treasurer gave an account of the finances and put forward a suggestion about the printing of the annual.

It was also suggested that in future for the major trails a professional PA system should be in place.

After a complaint about the structure of the fixtures  – there followed a long discussion on the future of hound trailing in its present format and it was decided to look into the structure of the seven areas with regard to reducing the number. The Committee would like members to come forward with reasonable ideas as to which road to take to try an ensure our sport survives .

Joanne Satterthwaite thanked all who supported her race night and £1473 was raised of which the Junior club and the HTA will benefit.

Also it was noted that the HTA is in receipt of £1000 from the late Hamish Rose and it’s destination will be decided on at the next meeting. Also a trophy in memory of George Harrop to  the value of £500 will also be decided .

Another blog from Baz.

When does a Hooligan become a Lunatic,an odd sort of question you may think, if you want the answer then ask the Gypsy Queen

She might answer she might not , all-in I think No- comment!

Imagine Dennis Reay and Caroline Graham disappearing into the undergrowth at Ward Hall, Dennis (forward) Caroline (backwards)Only to emerge almost immediately – ” roven to bits”.

One or two Cockermouth  lads had a go about the dog produce trails, nothing wrong with that, so now its my turn ” what was going on at Ward Hall on Tuesday “. That was a FP Golden at its best.

Hound of the week” Little Messy run four  won three all at Helton , two AI and a Restricted.

Co-incidence ! Maidens at Windermere Duncan wins with My Way, Tony  is second with “Proper”. Draw for 200 club ,next to take part. winner Duncan and Amy, second Tony. what price that happening!

Steven Fincher came to Ward Hall on Thursday, the former chair of the Aspatria and Wigton area informed me that on being checked for a new hip , he was told that one leg was two inches shorter than the other. now that has solved the problem when he used to lay trails , as to why he went around in circles!”

Again!  What mixture are you using ? It’s this new mixture that’s to blame ! what new mixture , the rule states Paraffin and Aniseed and has done since conception. nothing new hounds hunt aniseed.

Frequently asked !”I can’t smell the mixture,” i you can smell it after it has been laid then it is two strong.

Why doesn’t my hands and clothes smell of the mixture like it did many years ago.

Answer: the smell on your person after laying a trail in the past was the smell of the steep which the rags were kept. There was no rule to say rags must be kept in official steep therefore the trail rags used were kept in , to put it politely , anything that was soluble with paraffin and the number one suspect was urine, together with sump oil. TVO  .diesel, maiden’s water and there weren’t any official rags so the promoter had the choice of either using his own or borrowing from Tom ,Dick .or Harry.

Hence you only ran your hounds where the particular mixture suited them.

When the trailer went for a pint afterwards he cleared the pub out, especially when he went straight there without washing.

You smell like you’ve P******* yourself ” said a stranger.

“It’s not mine ” was the reply  It’s somebody else’s.

Baz’s WeEkly bLOg.

This is Baz’s weekly blog if you wish to complain about it’s contents then complain to the HTA Chairman and this downright, degrading column will be ‘ put down’ . Then Again if you don’t like this sort of fun approach , tongue in cheek , report then ! don’t read it !

Took the latest acquisitions (two Pups) to Keswick trails and Neil Brown , taking one look at them said ‘ It looks like we will have to run extra non-winners trails next season ‘ The Cheek ‘

Another surprise , the road to Latrigg  in better condition than the M6. Don’t expect Dubbs Lane to be tarmacked.!!!

Jimmy Batty is in the blog again after backing Jenny’s Aura to win at Coniston, saw his hopes dashed as she ‘went to water’ and was passed by————————-  ‘ Ladybird’ owned by Jimmy Batty, you can’t make it up! and at the same venue after the first two hounds had gone behind the judge, the owner of the winner ( a maiden) this was a restricted trail, asked ,after being told you have won, to look in the camera! ( jokingly ???).

Driving- Kendal- If you were my husband and drove like this I would ask you to stop and let me out, ” If you were my wife , I’d stop and kick you out! Just joking Steph?

And similarly   at lazonby -” I will scout with you as long as you wear a seatbelt and drive slowly” —  quote John Grizedale , passenger with his eyes shut !

When asked if he was going out tonight to celebrate the hounds win Jack replied ” when the hound wins I have a dozen pints and when it gets beat I just have twelve”. Crazy but true!
