Baz’s weakly blog

I praised Caroline’s navigational and driving skill’s but oh to soon.

Monday evening, after passing two signs indicating the A66 closed at Bassenthwaite ,  drove up to the barrier and uttered the words  ” the bloody road’s shut ” Now it didn’t take a lot to realise that a large sign saying Road Closed plus the two diversional signs previous meant  ” No you can’t go this way” . Turn Left , which she did,on the wrong side of the blue arrow ,”so what “!!

It rained  a laal bit on Saturday , the roads were flooded in a matter of minutes and anybody caught outside was soon wet through – and who had to run from one car to another ‘ Laal Pat’and when she reached the back door of the car,. it was locked and in the few seconds she was delayed she was soaked , T – shirt and competition  come to mind.

A few bob was invested on Kinniside Meg in the pup trail at Bridekirk. “What’s the difference between Meg, Molly, and Mell , I asked , the answer ” Meg ” is the one with the money on it .

Is it mine or is it yours – the question asked between Denis and Emily when litter sisters – Overwater Gemini and Hawkswood were running at Kendal and one of them trotted over the line and stood in front of the two owners who hadn’t a clue who’s hound it was.

The winner – Overwater Wood.!!!

Puzzled looks – the numerous people on the leaps road waiting for the senior hounds at Croasdale to cross- with no communication it was a  while before the “penny dropped” perhaps they aren’t coming .

Question? Why was a certain lady leaving the field early on Monday – reason – call of nature. But ! she fell over and lost her specs . No Names ,you’re secret’s safe – JULIE!

Our former Chairman , forever sprightly ,was called on to be a catcher at Kendal, he caught first, second  third fourth fifth and sixth and he got them right.

The Kinniside boys were under pressure at Kirkland , Spot was missing , Tony was travelling the countryside in the white van.

,Tony was getting agitated  “i’ll  have to get back to the field I’ve got five hounds in the back and they are in the next two trails.

Handing out membership receipts at Low Place , had to ask “who is this chap called Kenny and where does he live, it says Askam on the receipt.”

You will have a long walk Baz He lives in Ireland.

Tote at Low Place for a bit of entertainment – took five minutes to explain how it operates , who to – none other than perennial gambler Jud Booth.

Challenge on the hill at Lazonby – Is it possible to roll Nicola McMaster down the slope.?

A penny for your thoughts! James Irving as “Stanley” ,for the second time in a week ,disappeared into the Lazonby forest.

With reference to Crazy – I was giving a Patsy Cline rendition at Rusland – when Somebody “piped Up ” ” you should be on the stage Baz” ———-preferably with a sweeping brush “

Baz’s Monthly blog- every month.

The first month of the season is behind us, coughing and spluttering into the archives of life.

Caroline has finally admitted to a complete lapse and subsequently invested in kennels and two pups for 2018. One goes by the name of Blaze , which is against the rules , why? , because you are not allowed to call a hound after a former champion,

What has Blaze won? ,nothing ,! but it is Prudence’s kennel name and Ed has pointed out the rule.

It has been said that we could save money by having no toilets at the big events, not so judging by the queue at Helton , but you have to take into consideration there were no objects to hide behind or barns to p*** in. Did Sarah wet her pants when , unexpectedly , in mid flow , she was surprised. And! would Canny Girl be found if it hadn’t slept the night in the loo at Helton.

It came as a surprise to some to find out that only uniformed officers and their like can halt moving traffic, but! , traffic must take care not to hit pedestrians , therefore scouts ,stand in the middle of the road and wave the flag you are as safe as houses!

Prize Money- Helton £160 – 10 runners – two days later £ 30– 15 runners , weekend Oulton £160 7 runners.

What’s the point in chasing Endure and Marli around Helton when you can run on Wednesday and chase Marli on her own instead.,..

By the way not a bad weekend for “yours truly” four hounds in training and all four “In the Money”.

Controversy at Oulton on Sunday . Why ? the pups and the veterans both completed the course faster than two times Champion Prudence “,can’t be done “said Anon,” just has” was the reply.

. Caroline and myself were scouting on Sunday , we rang in to say that two pups and three veterans were missing . the reply “All accounted For”. Can we count , of course we can  we just didn’t look early enough on the “beck edge”.

By the way the bosses navigational skills  have improved but it is a good job that Kirkbride and Bridekirk are not in the same week, We would spend all night at Bothel  Left or Right? LOL.

Welfare of hounds.

Unfortunately a hound suffered a career ending injury at Lazonby on Tues evening, as we have been informed what has probably caused this injury and at which point in the trail it occurred. The Carlisle and Penrith area committee will conduct a search of this part of the trail and hopefully the offending object will be found and removed.

Carol (Caz) McGoldrick.RIP

On behalf of the members and followers of hound trailing may we offer our condolences to the family and friends of Carol who sadly passed away yesterday. Especially Joe and Vanessa- you only have to read the postings on the web to realise the inspiration and hope she instilled in other people. The hard battle she fought against a deadly foe,  with a laugh and a smile and a grim determination that should be an inspiration to us all.  RIP Carol , God bless.

The New Season 2017

The Chairman would like to wish all trailers  a successful season, free of injury, plenty of good fortune ,keep smiling, and don’t forget it’s a sport, our sport- support it ,don’t knock it and remember ” Always look on the bright side of life”

Now before we “kick Off ” I’ve had communication with the society for the abolition of abbreviations and to comply with their wishes ,  communication has been sent to seven areas , that! as from the 31st of March 2017 , “All hounds names when written either by the entry clerk, the runner or bookmakers , must be written in full.

IE . All Foxparkes no F.P.
